seeing myself

This is the view from my bedroom window.  With my L shaped apartment the length of my kitchen/living room/ balcony block my own view to the west. The development of the “broken” plan of panel blocks and the diversity in geometry the architects used in order to avoid the stereotypical rows of rectangular boxes and to instill a sense of individuality.

Most homes, in general, are designed to be linear. It is a strange sensation to be looking at your own space stick out in front of you from your view inside your space. It’s a detached sense of individuality, like a baby discovering their arm or their leg for the first time.

This is what other people see.

My bedroom is set back in line with 2 other apartments per floor, my balcony reaches out beyond us and obscures the setting sun.
