the cost of electricity

Bulgarians have had a diverse relationship with their costs of electricity.

The Death of Central Heating
Throughout the communist years the heating was provided, it was central heating, paid for by the state. Most everyone speaks fondly of the memories of how they used to go around in tank tops in the house in the winter.

Now a days the central heating is too expensive and people have resorted to adding electric air conditioning units, slapping intake apparatuses to the outside panel and drilling a hole through the panel to the sleek wall mounted unit on the inside. Around Trakiya you can see the remnants of the central heaters once used in every apartment now employed as fences around gardens or the underneaths of balconies.
