frames, apertures, and filters

The blocks of Trakiya were designed for maximum sunlight.

True to modernist form, the windows are large, the balconies beyond them reaching out to pull in more sun.

The inhabitants were in search of more space.
Space for their children to play,
space for another bedroom when families combine,
or more space for the kitchen and its new companions, the washing machine and the dishwasher.

They pulled their balconies that were once reaching out for the sun, in. Enclosing them at varying degrees and varying layers, some with just thin sheets of steel framed glass, others with full block walls. The space they were in search of was achieved, and with the view reframed, the aperture adjusted, and filters added, the sun now fights to penetrate what once reached out to it.
